Photoshop Brush Set and Photoshop Swatches
I have got some questions recently about what kind of brushes I use and I thought the best is to share my brush set and my swatches for Photoshop.
I am always changing and customizing my brushes during the work depending on the result what I would like to achieve (I even creating some brand new brushes for most my illustrations hahah...). The set contains about 60% of collected brushes from all sort of digital artists from the web and about 40% of my custom created and modified brushes.
You can find the brush set at the sidebar under Downloads from know on and download the original version of the swatches I use from Sketchling at CGHub > HERE < .
Hope you can use at least some of them! :)

Artorder Concept Sketch: Construct
> Its not an unusual thing to hear weird noises after a great battle before dawn. Its almost like the loud hammering of the goblin factories, what you can hear even from miles away.
The survivors are hiding into their small military tents these times and just waiting quietly.
`That is the way of life. Let the construct bring what belongs to him...` - used to say the older soldiers. <
I`ve wanted to create a more abstract image this time, so I worked digitally. Alchemy used for the basic sketch to get some random shapes. After that I worked with Artrage and Photoshop to achieve the final image. About 2 hours from scratch >>>

Sketchbomb v.70 - Droids
a different `speedpainting` method this time...
most of the times, when I have to achieve a photorealistic look quickly in case of a concept, I use loads of reference images. I am creating a proper perspective and collecting about 25-30 images from the net. I use mainly freesource texture sites like CgTextures or ImageAfter, because they have nice hi-res images and a huge library of all sort of things. after this first step I distort the images onto the perspective and make a bit of compositing in color and tone. then I am making a quick paintover on top to get exactly what I have in my mind and I am placing the `non-referencable` objects (like the robots in this case) into the environment. the final step is to strengthen the aerial perspective and get the lights and shadows right. the whole process is similar to matte painting, but the result is a more rough image and focused just on mood, composition and lighting. after I get to a stage like this (whole process was about 2 hours), starts the detailing phase, what is usually 5-6 hours to a nice concept or 40-50 hours to a cool matte finish)

Artorder Concept Sketch: Pets of Orcus
Every living thing is afraid of the great Orcus, even the brave heroes and mighty sorcerers. The Orcus is a fearsome enemy and we just know a lucky few from the ancient legends who survived the meeting with this giant demon.
There is only one type of small critter who isn`t afraid of the giant beast and these are the tiny lavarats who are living around the cave of evil. They are the total opposites of the demon - small, harmless and cute.

Artorder Concept Sketch: Garreths
Another week, another sketch for Jon Schindehette`s weekly sketch group (you can check his awesome blog HERE). This weeks theme was the Garreth, a race of tiny humanoids that populate the red dragon lairs.
The Garreths` life is mainly about the hard work around the red. They have to keep clean all of his gold and cave, even scratch his back with huge rocks when itchy. There is one thing what few people know: the Garreths are with the red, because they are addicted to worn and rusty human armors and weapons. These are worthless rubbish for the dragon, but a real treasure for these small critters.
When the big red sleeps, the Garreths collect the leftovers of the unlucky heroes and start to play...

Cockatrice - Lunchtime doodle 76 & Sketchbomb 62
Concept sketch and quick overpaint for Jon Schindehette`s weekly sketching competition. This week the direction was to create a version of the classic fantasy critter, the cockatrice, after 4000 years of evolution.
In my version the cockatrice became a domesticated animal, sort of like a parrot. It is the favourite pet of the interdimensional cargo ship pilots, because they are really clever and can catch all the rats on the ship.
Jon is a senior art director of Dungeons & Dragons at Wizards of the Coast and he is making an awesome blog, what you definitely have to check out HERE.

Lunchtime doodle 75
something different this time. I went to Auckland museum today, I just had to do a sketch about Sue, the biggest and most complete T-Rex fossil in the world. :) If you are around I highly recommend to visit the exhibition - it was a great experience. You can find more info here.
